Nokia’s new N8 Smart Phone certainly covers all the bases when it comes to tackling the highly competitive Smart Phone Market . One thing we are worried about is the limited talk time of 5 hours and estimated 400 hours standby – we feel that this could have been improved .
Without a doubt the phone’s single outstanding feature is the new 12 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens camera. The wide screen camera allows you to shoot video and images in superb quality which is un-matched in most other phones .
The phone has a HDMI port which allows you to connect your phone directly into your TV or monitor and watch movies from the phone. There is no need to transfer data between devices. The phone package also includes the HDMI cable .
The need to transport data is also covered with the memory capacity of the phone – standard it includes 16GB of memory and this can be increased to 48GB with a microSD card.
The N8 can play back video in several formats, including MP4, Real Video and H.264.
The new Symbian 3 operating system has been improved drastically and is far superior than previous versions .
The phone includes voice-guided free. Simply enter where you want to go and Ovi Maps with voice guidance will tell you how to get there, turn by turn. By car or on foot.
On-demand Web TV allows you to access TV channels like CNN and National Geographic and get them piped to your phone from the comfort of your bus seat. There are a number of other channels available from the Nokia OVI Store.
The Nokia N8 also takes into account the different aspects of people’s lives and you can manage your phone to take this into account – you can setup different themes for work or for play, having applications specific to the situation makes a lot of sense. Switching themes is obviously also quite easy .
Nokia’s bundled web browser is finally good enough that you don’t need to downloaded a third party browser, such as Opera. The N8 supports multitouch, so you can pinch your fingers to zoom in and out of web pages.
People can update their status, share location and photos, and view live feeds from Facebook and Twitter in a single app directly on the home screen
The N8 has a 680MHz processor with a graphics accelerator, a 640×360-pixel, 3,5-inch capacitive-touch screen, assisted GPS, and 3G with high-speed packet access. The camera, which protrudes from the back of the device a little too much for our liking, features Carl Zeiss optics and has a bright xenon flash.
